As a part of Blog Action Day 2011 we were asked to write about Food. This is a current topic to me as I am just recovering from an infection called Mononucleosis, and the right food is really important to me in order to fully recover. Mononucleosis is a virus found in saliva and mucus. It is usually passed from one person to another through kissing, which is why it is often called 'the kissing disease'. But beware, it can also be passed through simply coughing or drinking from the same cup! The symptoms include: fever, sore throat, fatigue, weakness, swollen glands in your neck and armpits, loss of appetite, night sweat and vomiting. It's a very long and tiring illness so trust me, you don't want to catch it! Especially now when it's getting colder everyday and our immune systems are getting weaker.
A good way to boost your immune system is to take in A LOT of vitamins (especially vitamin C). And if you're not a fan of tablets, here is a recipe for a tasty juice that will give your body all the vitamins it needs to keep you healthy through winter time :)
1 stalk of celery
1 apple
½ cucumber
½ beetroot with the greens
½ handful of wheatgrass
½ handful of parsley
(chop into small pieces and juice together)
If you remember to drink a glass of some kind of a juice like this everyday, you'll notice that even your complexion and hair are looking healthier. Keep warm and avoid illnesses!
Peace :)
